Lambertville Hunting Lodge - Colusa County, Ca

The “Laptalo Duck Club” Waterfowl and upland bird club

Location: This outstanding waterfowl and upland bird hunting club is located approximately five Miles East of Interstate 5 and about one mile South of the Norman-Princeton Road.  The lodge is located in the village of Lambertville approximately four miles East of interstate 5.
The town of Princeton and access from state route 45 are approximately five miles East of the village.

Property description: The club hunting area consists of a total of 82 acres of permanently restored marsh and three upland areas.  The entire property is enrolled in the U.S.  Fish and Wildlife Service easement program, which is perpetual.  The restoration project on this property utilized levees and water control structures to create a diverse mosaic of swales, levees islands and potholes and upland grassy areas for waterfowl and other wildlife.  There are four 2-man blinds installed in the marsh area.

The lodge is located in the Lambertville village on lot #16.  It is approximately 800 square feet in size and consists of two bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, dining area and commons.  The Willow Creek Ranch owns the underlying real property in the Lambertville village and leases the cabin spaces to the owners of the clubs under a 99 year lease agreement.  The Willow Creek Ranch also provides security, garbage and other services to the owners for a monthly assessment.

Water Supply and Irrigation:  The wetland receives water from the Willow Creek Mutual Water Co.  Landowners can purchase summer water for wildlife food plots, and fall water for flood up  for Duck and goose season.  As a mutual (or Private) water company, landowners within the Willow Creek Ranch own shares in the water company.  The company provides some equipment services to the landowners.  Several local established firms are also available to provide habitat services, levee repairs, blind work, etc.

Recreation unlimited: The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge complex, consisting of nearly 12,000 acres of waterfowl and wildlife habitat, is situated just west of this area.  Millions of migrating Pacific flyway ducks, geese, swans and other birds annually pass through this area during their annual fall and winter migration.  Just 5 or so miles east this area is the Sacramento River, which boasts virtually unlimited opportunity for recreational pursuits. Several boat launch facilities are available at Butte city and Ord Bend, a few miles to the north, Colusa State Park boat launch facility is located a few miles to the south.  The Sacramento river is renowned for its Striped Bass, Chinook salmon, sturgeon and shad fishing.  Several club owners keep their boats in the village to take advantage of these opportunities.

Hunting success:   This is an outstanding duck, goose and pheasant club.  While seasoned waterfowlers will acknowledge that the 2008-09 season left much to be desired when compared to some past years, this club did very well.  Shooting logs, (which are available from 1999 to date), show 267 ducks, 79 geese and 31 ringneck pheasants taken in the 2008-09 waterfowl and upland seasons, an average of 4.01 birds per hunter day.

Supplemental information:  additional maps, wetland easement information, Willow Creek mutual Water district by laws, water service rates, and area landowner service providers contact information are available upon request.  Technical information regarding marsh management and habitat improvement is available through several public and private organizations and also available upon request.
